Dr. Elizabeth Birch

Founder / Veterinarian

Dr. Elizabeth Birch is proud to call Corbin, Kentucky her hometown. After graduating from Eastern Kentucky University in 2010, she began her career in veterinary medicine as a veterinary technician in Lexington, KY. Her passion for animal care led her to pursue her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree at Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine, completing her clinical training at Louisiana State University and graduating in 2016.

Dr. Birch loves all aspects of veterinary medicine but has a special interest in small animal surgery. As the founder of Veterinary Care Center, she is excited to serve the community she grew up in by providing compassionate, high-quality care to pets and their families. She takes pride in creating a clinic environment that feels like home, where both clients and team members are treated like family.

When she’s not caring for patients, Dr. Birch enjoys spending time with her friends and family, reading a good book, and catching a good movie.

Blake

Founder / Practice Manager

Blake is the Practice Manager at Veterinary Care Center and one of the driving forces behind its creation. After spending three years helping Dr. Birch plan and build the clinic from the ground up, Blake helped turn a dream into reality — a family-owned veterinary practice designed to serve the local community with heart.

Blake earned his Bachelor of Business Administration from Eastern Kentucky University and went on to receive his Juris Doctorate from Salmon P. Chase College of Law. With over 10 years of experience running multiple businesses, including several start-ups, he brings a strong background in leadership, operations, and strategic growth.

As Dr. Birch’s husband, Blake has always shared her vision of creating a clinic that blends professional care with a personal touch. He now oversees the day-to-day operations of the practice, including accounting, marketing, staffing, maintenance, scheduling, and overall efficiency.

At home, Blake enjoys spending time outdoors and relaxing with his family, including his French Bulldog, Little Bit. When he’s not at the clinic or outside, you can often find him catching a good movie or enjoying quiet time with his loved ones.

Jeremy

Head Veterinary Assistant

Jeremy is an experienced veterinary medicine professional with over 8 years in the field, having started his career in 2017. His journey in veterinary medicine has given him the opportunity to work across various areas of the clinic, including kennels, treatment, surgery, and reception. This hands-on experience has allowed him to develop a comprehensive and well-rounded skill set, equipping him to provide exceptional support in a fast-paced environment.

Jeremy has a deep passion for surgery and finds fulfillment assisting with procedures while ensuring the highest level of care for patients. Before joining VCC, he gained valuable experience at two other clinics, further solidifying his expertise. His adaptability and eagerness to take on new challenges are qualities he values. He is dedicated to providing the best care possible, driven by his love for animals and commitment to their well-being.

Outside of his professional life, Jeremy shares his home with a beloved cat, who holds a special place in his heart. In his free time, he enjoys reading, watching movies, and engaging in various outdoor activities such as swimming, camping, and hiking when the weather permits.

Ashley McGuffey 

Veterinary Assistant

Originally from Waynesburg, Kentucky, Ashley earned her bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Science with a concentration in Animal Science from Western Kentucky University. She brings over 10 years of experience in the veterinary field, having worked with both small and large animals.

In addition to her veterinary background, Ashley has spent more than 30 years in the equine industry, training and breeding Tennessee Walking Horses—a lifelong passion that continues to inspire her work with animals.

When she’s not at the clinic, Ashley enjoys spending time with her son, riding horses, and working on the family farm. Her dedication to animal care and deep-rooted agricultural experience make her an invaluable member of our team.

Jazlyn

Veterinary Assistant

Jazlyn joined Veterinary Care Center in March 2025 as a Boarding Attendant, where she quickly demonstrated her passion for animal care and her desire to build a future in veterinary medicine. She has since transitioned to the veterinary clinic as a Veterinary Assistant, allowing her to gain valuable hands-on clinical experience as she works toward her long-term goal of becoming a veterinarian.

Currently attending college, Jazlyn plans to pursue veterinary school after completing her undergraduate education. Becoming a veterinarian has been a goal of hers since childhood, and her move from Stay & Play Lodge into the veterinary side of VCC gives her the opportunity to continue learning while gaining experience with patient care, diagnostics, treatments, and the day-to-day workings of veterinary medicine.

Growing up surrounded by animals helped shape Jazlyn’s love for the profession. At home, she shares her life with two dogs — a Shar Pei mix and a Norwegian Elkhound — and three cats.

At Veterinary Care Center, Jazlyn enjoys working directly with patients and continuing to develop her veterinary skills alongside the VCC team. Her experience caring for boarding patients has also given her a strong foundation in animal handling, comfort, and recognizing the individual needs of each pet.

Outside of work and school, Jazlyn enjoys staying active and spending time at the gym. Fitness is an important part of her life and helps her maintain balance as she works toward her goal of one day becoming a veterinarian.

Lasha

Veterinary Assistant

Lasha is a Veterinary Assistant at Veterinary Care Center who brings a lifelong love of animals and a deep passion for animal care to her role. Before joining VCC in March 2025, Lasha spent nearly 20 years working with horses—training, showing, and trail riding—which helped shape her dedication to animal welfare.

Lasha owns five dogs and four cats, and her love for animals is evident in every patient she cares for. Since joining Veterinary Care Center, she has hit the ground running, eager to learn everything she can about veterinary medicine. Her compassion, enthusiasm, and genuine love for the work are clear in every interaction with patients and clients alike.

Outside of work, Lasha enjoys spending time with her husband, two daughters, grandson, and friends. She loves outdoor adventures like side-by-side riding, hiking, and attending dirt track races on the weekends. Her favorite colors are light purple and black, and while her Labradoodle, Reggie, holds a special place in her heart, her lifelong love of horses remains strong.

Lasha is proud to be part of the Veterinary Care Center team, where she values the family atmosphere and the support of her knowledgeable coworkers.

Danielle

Veterinary Assistant

Danielle joined Veterinary Care Center as a Boarding Attendant, where her love for animals and interest in veterinary medicine quickly became apparent. While working at VCC, she completed her Veterinary Assistant course and has since transitioned into a Veterinary Assistant position with our veterinary team.

Her experience in boarding gave Danielle a strong foundation in animal handling, observation, and compassionate care. Now working on the veterinary side of VCC, she continues to expand her skills through hands-on patient care, assisting with treatments and diagnostics, and supporting our doctors and fellow technicians throughout the day.

Danielle enjoys the opportunity to continue learning and growing within veterinary medicine while helping provide excellent care to VCC patients.

Outside of work, Danielle loves spending time with her three dogs, horseback riding, and enjoying her trucks. Whether she’s at the clinic, at the barn, or behind the wheel, Danielle is happiest staying busy and spending time around the animals and things she loves.

Danielle’s progression from Boarding Attendant to completing her Veterinary Assistant education and becoming a Veterinary Technician reflects her dedication to building a career in animal care, and we’re excited to have her continue growing as part of the VCC team.

Katelyn

Professional Groomer

Katelyn is a professional groomer and K9 trainer at Veterinary Care Center, with six years of hands-on experience working with animals. Her approach is centered around one-on-one care, allowing her to build trust with each pet and tailor every grooming experience to their individual needs.

While Katelyn has a strong passion for training and helping dogs overcome fear, anxiety, and reactivity, grooming is her primary focus and specialty. With certifications and continued education in both pet styling and K9 training, she is dedicated to making every grooming experience as comfortable, low-stress, and positive as possible.

Katelyn is passionate about continuing to expand her knowledge of animals and hopes to become more involved with the AKC in the future. Outside of work, she enjoys training and socializing her own dogs, taking them on adventures, and getting them ready for their next trip or activity. She also dedicates her time to rescuing and fostering animals, helping them find loving forever homes.

For Katelyn, working with animals is more than a career; it’s something she genuinely loves and is passionate about every day.

Tori

Boarding Attendant

Tori Brown is a dedicated Boarding Attendant at Veterinary Care Center with a genuine love for animals and their well-being. Born and raised locally in Corbin, KY, Tori has always had a special place in her heart for animals.

Outside of work, Tori loves spending time with her family and friends and going on adventures with her two dogs. She especially enjoys getting creative with her pups by dressing them up in colorful costumes and even adding a little fun with pet-safe dye! 

Tori is passionate about providing compassionate care to every animal she meets and is excited to continue growing her skills and pursuing her journey in the animal-care field. Her goal is to make every pet feel safe, comfortable, and loved while they’re in her care.

Jocelyn

Boarding Attendant

Jocelyn joined Veterinary Care Center as a Boarding Attendant, bringing with her a lifelong love for animals and a natural ability to make pets feel comfortable and cared for. She quickly transitioned into a Veterinary Assistant position, where she now works directly with our veterinary team and patients each day.

Her time in boarding gave Jocelyn a strong foundation in animal handling, observation, and compassionate care. As a Veterinary Assistant, she has continued to build on those skills while gaining hands-on experience in patient care, assisting with treatments and diagnostics, and supporting our doctors throughout the day.

A true cat lover, Jocelyn has always had a special connection with animals. Growing up around stray animals helped develop the compassion that ultimately led her to veterinary medicine. At home, she shares an especially close bond with her cat, Jubie, who is her whole world and constant companion.

One of Jocelyn’s favorite things about Veterinary Care Center is being part of a supportive team where she can continue learning, developing new skills, and doing work she genuinely loves.

Outside of VCC, you’ll often find Jocelyn behind a camera, curled up with a good book, or spending time with her little sisters, niece, and nephews. She is also preparing to join the National Guard, extending her passion for helping others beyond veterinary medicine.

With her warmth, compassion, and willingness to learn, Jocelyn has grown tremendously since joining VCC and continues to be an important part of our veterinary team.

Hannah

Boarding Attendant

Hannah is a dedicated Boarding Attendant at Veterinary Care Center, bringing a lifelong love for animals and a growing passion for understanding animal behavior to her role. As an aspiring dog trainer, Hannah approaches every animal in her care with thoughtfulness, compassion, and a focus on creating a safe, calm, and positive environment.

Although this is her first professional position in animal services, Hannah’s enthusiasm, curiosity, and deep respect for animals have quickly made her a valued member of the Veterinary Care Center team. She is especially interested in animal behavior and looks forward to continuing to grow her skills alongside her experienced colleagues.

For Hannah, the most rewarding part of her work is the opportunity to learn every day — both from the animals she cares for and from the incredible team around her.
